Overview
The Vancouver Island Kayak Polo club is excited to welcome you to our 2nd annual Island Cup tournament. Players will be joining us from across North America and abroad. The Cup will be held at YMCA/YWCA Camp Thunderbird on Glinz Lake. Overnight accommodations and meals are included making this an all-inclusive weekend.
We are hosting a training camp on Friday, May 22nd for skills and strategy development. Clinics will be designed for all abilities. We encourage all players of all abilities to participate.
Games are scheduled for Saturday, May 23rd and Sunday, May 24th and will be played in a round-robin style. The final match on Sunday will be scheduled to finish in mid-afternoon, followed by an awards ceremony.
There will only be one division to facilitate a fun learning environment. This means everyone will register individually, during registration a skill determination question will allow tournament organizers to assign and balance teams for the weekend. If you have a team in mind at registration time please indicate it in the comments and the organizers will make every effort to accommodate that request.
Once teams have been assigned there will be two days of round robin game play with a playoff style for the rounds on Sunday. There will also be some demonstration games during breaks; youth players to play all together, perhaps a senoirs match and a national team level demonstration.
